These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of https://opencommunity.directory (the "Site") operated by OpenCommunity. By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
1. The Service
OpenCommunity is a public directory of online communities — Discord servers, Slack workspaces, Telegram groups, Reddit communities, and more. We allow community owners to submit their communities for listing and allow anyone to browse and discover them. We review submissions before they appear publicly and reserve the right to approve, reject, or remove any listing at our sole discretion.
2. Accounts
To submit a community or manage your listings, you must sign in using a Google or GitHub account. You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the security of your account
- All activity that occurs under your account
- Ensuring the information associated with your account is accurate
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
3. Submitting Communities
When you submit a community listing, you represent and warrant that:
- You are the owner, admin, or an authorised representative of the community
- All information provided is accurate and not misleading
- The community complies with the platform's own terms of service
- The join URL is functional and leads to the community you describe
By submitting a listing, you grant OpenCommunity a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display the community name, description, logo, and other submitted information on the Site.
4. Content Standards
Listings must not promote or facilitate:
We will remove listings that violate these standards without notice and may ban associated accounts.
5. Prohibited Uses
You agree not to:
- Scrape, crawl, or harvest data from the Site without our written permission
- Use automated bots or scripts to submit listings or interact with the Site
- Attempt to circumvent our moderation or review processes
- Interfere with or disrupt the Site's infrastructure or security
- Use the Site in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations
6. Intellectual Property
The OpenCommunity name, logo, and site design are our intellectual property. You may not use them without our prior written consent.
Community names, logos, and descriptions remain the intellectual property of their respective owners. We claim no ownership over content submitted by users.
7. Disclaimers
The Site is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that:
- The Site will be uninterrupted or error-free
- Any community listing is accurate, up to date, or safe to join
- The Site is free of viruses or other harmful components
OpenCommunity is a directory — we are not responsible for the communities listed, their content, or their conduct. Always exercise caution before joining any online community.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, OpenCommunity shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Site, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms shall not exceed $100 USD.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless OpenCommunity and its team from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Site, your submitted content, or your violation of these Terms.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Site at any time, with or without notice, for any reason including violation of these Terms. You may stop using the Site at any time. Upon termination, your right to use the Site ceases immediately.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users by email.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation where possible.
